Most Anticipated: May 2022
May is the start of the summer book season, which means I’m absolutely drowning in books I want to read! Of course at the same time the weather is getting absolutely gorgeous here, which means I want to spend all day outside basking in the sunlight before it gets too hot. I did do some pool-side reading the other day… here’s hoping to a lot more of that this summer!
Here’s my list of 11 books I’m looking forward in May!
Book of Night – Holly Black (May 3)

WHY?: I’m a big fan of the author’s young adult work so I’m very excited to see what she comes up with in this book. The magic system seems pretty inventive, at least!
Kiss Hard – Nalini Singh (May 3)

WHY?: Nalini Singh is more well-known for her paranormal romances (whether they involve shifters or angels) but her New Zealand-set contemporaries are quite fun as well, even if I have absolutely no idea how rugby is played!
See You Yesterday – Rachel Lynn Solomon (May 3)

WHY?: TIME LOOP! I will read pretty much anything with a time loop, especially if there’s a romance. I’m not sure I’ve read one where both love interests have been stuck in the loop before, but I’m very much looking forward to this one!
If You Want Me Close – Skye Kilaen (May 10)
Falling in love with your best friend is wonderful… until tragedy means fighting for the romance and the friendship.
Bisexual event coordinator Simon Novotny thrives on connection. He cherishes his large, queer-friendly family and his friends—especially his cute, brilliant work bestie, gay IT geek Ziah Holdaway.

WHY?: I love Skye’s work, and a friends-to-lovers hurt-comfort sounds like complete catnip to me!

WHY?: This author’s last book absolutely knocked my socks off. I like books where characters connect with their cities, especially with how little traveling we’ve been doing the past few years…
Forged in Flames – Ali Williams (May 14)
Very little phases blacksmith Kenna, so accidentally awakening a Goddess barely gives her pause, until she discovers what gifts Belisama has bestowed in her. She finds herself in the midst of a power struggle between two Gods that she didn’t even know existed, but it’s the fact that this isn’t a challenge she can face alone that will almost get her killed.
Morcant has been trapped as part of the Wild Hunt for centuries: he’s seen his brother die as part of the curse; friends give up; and he’ll do just about anything to keep the remaining members safe. So when he’s promised their freedom, he agrees to do what the god Nodens asks, and stop the Godstouched from unwittingly creating more mayhem.

WHY?: Mayhem, mayhem, mayhem! This sounds like an interesting fantasy romance with found family vibes.
The Hourglass Throne – K.D. Edwards (May 17)

WHY?: I loved the first two books in the trilogy of trilogies and I desperately want to see Rune get an HEA… but I’m not sure the author’s going to deliver that!
The Stardust Thief – Chelsea Abdullah (May 17)
Neither here nor there, but long ago…

WHY?: That entire blurb is one “yes yes yes yes yes yes yes” for me. I cannot wait to read this one!

WHY?: Normally I try to stay pretty far away from any litfic takes on romance, but I’ve heard a lot of buzz about this book.
The Fae Keeper – H.E. Edgmon (May 31)

WHY?: The Witch King was one of my favorite books of 2021, so of course I am absolutely dying to know what happens next!
