After that sixteen book long list that month, I’m glad things seem to be slowing down a bit in the book publishing world. My TBR is pretty much ready to collapse at this point, so adding only nine books to it at this point feels, well ok, it still feels like Jenga but maybe a little bit less teeter-tottery?<\/p>\n

Here’s my list of nine books I’m looking forward in October!<\/p>\n

When her convent is attacked by possessed soldiers, Artemisia defends it by awakening an ancient spirit bound to a saint\u2019s relic. It is a revenant, a malevolent being that threatens to possess her the moment she drops her guard. WHY?: I absolutely adored Sorcery of Thorns<\/em>\u00a0and can’t wait\u00a0to see what the author does with this incredibly different story.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Heartbreak Bakery – A.R. Capetta\u00a0<\/strong><\/a> (October 12)<\/h4>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Teenage baker Syd sends ripples of heartbreak through Austin\u2019s queer community when a batch of post-being-dumped brownies turns out to be magical\u2014and makes everyone who eats them break up.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s done is done.\u201d
\nUnless, of course, it was done by my brownies. Then it\u2019s getting\u00a0<\/i>undone.<\/i><\/p>\n

Syd (no pronouns, please) has always dealt with big, hard-to-talk-about things by baking. Being dumped is no different, except now Syd is baking at the Proud Muffin, a queer bakery and community space in Austin. And everyone who eats Syd\u2019s breakup brownies . . . breaks up. Even Vin and Alec, who own the Proud Muffin. And their breakup might take the bakery down with it. Being dumped is one thing; causing ripples of queer heartbreak through the community is another. But the cute bike delivery person, Harley (he or they, check the pronoun pin, it\u2019s probably on the messenger bag), believes Syd about the magic baking. And Harley believes Syd\u2019s magical baking can fix things, too\u2014one recipe at a time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

WHY?: This sounds absolutely adorable. Queer bakery?\u00a0Magical brownies (no, not in that way)? Only one person can help? Yup, yup, yup.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Her Wolf in the Wild – Rien Gray<\/strong><\/a> (October 19)<\/h4>\n

\"Her<\/p>\n

The Hounds of God MC live outside the law and protect their own. They only have three rules:
\n(1) look out for each other
\n(2) obey the club president
\n(3) never show a human your werewolf form.<\/b>
\nChristiana Arjean needs to get out. She tried to fix her relationship, but making a break for it is her only shot. She almost doesn\u2019t make it, until a butch biker with a shock of white hair tosses Christiana on the back of her bike. Micah is as mysterious as she is attractive, and Christiana wants to know what\u2019s under that tough exterior.
\nMicah Nubilo knows a little bit about keeping secrets. Rescuing Christiana is a bad idea, and letting her hang around is even worse. But there\u2019s something calling to Micah: an impossible bond no werewolf should ever feel for a human, even one as beautiful as Christiana.

\"Nothing<\/p>\n

Cassandra Khaw’s Nothing But Blackened Teeth<\/i> is a gorgeously creepy haunted house tale, steeped in Japanese folklore and full of devastating twists. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

A Heian-era mansion stands abandoned, its foundations resting on the bones of a bride and its walls packed with the remains of the girls sacrificed to keep her company.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the perfect wedding venue for a group of thrill-seeking friends.<\/p>\n

But a night of food, drinks, and games quickly spirals into a nightmare. For lurking in the shadows is the ghost bride with a black smile and a hungry heart.<\/p>\n

And she gets lonely down there in the dirt.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

WHY?: That cover was already enough to give me nightmares, but then the mention of a haunted house and that it’s inspired by Japanese folklore? And twisty? I couldn’t click the\u00a0request button fast enough.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the Feels – Olivia Dade<\/strong><\/a> (October 26)<\/h4>\n

Following Spoiler Alert<\/i>, Olivia Dade returns with another utterly charming romantic comedy about a devil-may-care actor\u2014who actually cares more than anyone knows\u2014and the no-nonsense woman hired to keep him in line.<\/b><\/p>\n
