Down the TBR Hole #2 – January 11, 2018
It’s time for the second week of the Down the TBR Hole challenge from Lost in a Story.
Here’s the basics:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
What fun things will we find this week?
The Books
Bloodline – Claudia Gray
I’ve heard really good things about this book, and I absolutely adore Princess Leia, so this one is staying.
Verdict: KEEP
A Murder in Time – Julie McElwain
Time travel murder mystery. OK, that sounds too cool to get rid of.
Verdict: KEEP
Sleeping Giants – Sylvain Neuvel
Giant robot? Female scientist? No brainer.
Verdict: KEEP
Crosstalk – Connie Willis
I read several of Connie Willis’s other works – Doomsday Book, To Say Nothing of the Dog, Bellwether – when I was a teen and they were pivotal in my reading life. I’ve sadly fallen behind on reading her books, but I need to catch up! Another no brainer.
Verdict: KEEP
Too Like the Lightning – Ada Palmer
This was a Hugo nominee for best novel in 2017. In case you haven’t noticed yet, I had a big thing for female authors who wrote fantasy or scifi when I was a kid, and I keep meaning to check out what’s been happening in those fields.
Verdict: KEEP
Ninefox Gambit – Yoon Ha Lee
Uh, are you seeing a pattern here? This is another scifi book I’ve heard a lot of buzz about.
Verdict: KEEP
Grit- Angela Duckworth
I’ve struggled with perseverance all my life, so I’m especially interested in learning more about this.
Verdict: KEEP
When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi
I’m intending to read this as part of the Read Harder challenge, so I’ll hopefully be moving this from the TBR list to the read list soon!
Verdict: KEEP
Hillbilly Elegy – J.D. Vance
Another one I intend to read as part of the Read Harder challenge.
Verdict: KEEP
A Mother’s Reckoning – Sue Klebold
I’m intending to read Columbine as part of the Read Harder challenge, and I think this would be a good companion book.
Verdict: KEEP
Summary
Total Books Sorted: 20
Books kept: 16 (80%)
Books tossed: 4 (20%)
So, this was not a good week for getting things off the list! Luckily, there are a few books I intend to read this year, so I guess that’s one way of reducing my TBR list.
What do you think of my decisions?
