Down the TBR Hole #3 – January 18, 2018
It’s time for another week of the Down the TBR Hole challenge from Lost in a Story.
Here’s the basics:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
What fun things will we find this week?
The Books
Hidden Figures – Margot Lee Shetterly
OK, continuing the non-fiction kick I was on last week, here’s another one that I really do want to read!
Verdict: KEEP
The Gene – Siddhartha Mukherjee
OK, besides the fact that the cover looks like some groovy midcentury wall art, I’m also fascinated in this social history of genes and what they are.
Verdict: KEEP
Thing Explainer – Randall Munroe
OK, the last of the non-fiction book spree. I adore xkcd, and I actually own a hardcopy of this one (shocker!), so I’m definitely keeping it on the list.
Verdict: KEEP
Ghosts – Raina Telgemeier
OK, so we’ve moved from non-fiction, to a non-fiction graphic novel, to graphic novels! Was I looking at some sort of list when I added all these books? I actually got this out of the library and started reading it a few months ago, but had to finish up an ARC and ran out of time. I enjoyed what I did read of it, so I think I’ll keep it on the list.
Verdict: KEEP
Saga, Vol. 6 – Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staples
I have no idea why I added vol 6 of this series to my TBR. I’ve read at least the first volume back when it first came out, and I definitely want to catch up on it. I also already have that first volume on my TBR, so I’m removing this one.
Verdict: GO
Ms. Marvel, Vol. 5: Super Famous – G. Willow Wilson, Takeshi Miyazawa, Adrian Alphona, Nico Leon
OK, I had to have been pulling off some best of the year list, because now here’s the fifth volume of Ms. Marvel. Like Saga, I think I’ve read the first volume before, and I have that one on my TBR as well.
Verdict: GO
Lumberjanes, Vol. 3: A Terrible Plan – way too many to mention
Next verse, same as the first! This is even weirder considering I looked at the first volume of this series in my first Down the TBR Hole post!
Verdict: GO
The Vision, Vol. 1: Little Worse Than a Man – Tom King, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Jordie Bellaire, Clayton Cowles, Mike del Mundo
Hey look! The first volume of something! Vision is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and I’ve heard this series (I think it’s only four volumes total?) is really quite good.
Verdict: KEEP
Salt to the Sea – Ruta Sepetys
I’m kinda really interested in shipwreck tales (I blame all the Titanic furor when I was a kid), and I’ve heard amazing reviews of this from bloggers I trust.
Verdict: KEEP
This Is Where It Ends – Marieke Nijkamp
I’ve read Ms. Nijkamp’s second book, and while I wasn’t completely in love with it, it was good enough that I really want to read more of her work.
Verdict: KEEP
Summary
Total Books Sorted: 30
Books kept: 23 (77%)

Not a bad week!
What do you think of my decisions?
